With every new release since 2000′s United, Phoenix becomes more successful and more popular on an international level. How does the band digest all of the accolades and fame?

The growth has been very gradual. We are really lucky that when we began YouTube didn’t exist. We’ve had a chance to grow and take opportunities. When we started, the US wasn’t ready for us and we weren’t ready for the US. Now, the US is ready for us and we are ready for the US.

Would you consider the constant touring to be enjoyable or exhausting?

It’s mostly fun although the human body is not designed for this kind of life everyday!

What’s the process for creating a great pop song?

A great pop song creates a new universe. For us, we’re always in an adventurous state of mind. We always try to push.

There have been a great deal of stellar Bankrupt! remixes. Which is your favorite of the bunch?

When we’re finished with the album, we put the stems out so everyone can do a remix and then we ask a few people we really like if they want to do one. I really like the Breakbot and A-Trak remixes. We like it when the song is really transformed – when the remixer takes it and makes it their own.

After all of Phoenix’s 2013 tour commitments have been completed, what are the band’s plans for early 2014?

We’re going to travel a lot but not as much as now. There are still a lof of places we’ve never played. We’re focused on doing things differently. We’re not going to stop touring but we won’t do the huge cycle again.
